Frequently Asked Questions
-
You can use the contact form to registered your interest in our services.
I will organise an intake phone call with you (usually about 20 minutes) to discuss your needs, my services, answer your questions and determine with you whether I am the right psychologist. If we decide to work together, I will go through all you need to know to make you first appointment.

Medicare Better Access Scheme helps cover the cost of seeing a psychologist. You need to go to your GP to obtain a referral and Mental Health care Plan. Medicare Better Access Scheme is only available for individual treatment. Please read my Medicare MHCP explainer in the next section below.

The number of sessions is dependent on your needs and the issues you want to work on. There is no requirement at CDC to attend any amount of sessions. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a form of therapy that encourages deep reflection on your self and your life to build the insight and awareness to address your challenges differently. This form of therapy is more a medium to longer term form of therapy. Often 12-40 sessions is common. Normally I recommend starting with an initial 6 sessions in order to help us get to know each other, define the focus of our work and begin addressing what is most important to you.
-
Some private health funds offer rebates for psychological services, depending on your level of cover. Please check with your fund. You can’t claim both Medicare and private health issues at the same time or same session.
-
Life demands, unforeseen circumstances and commitments may sometimes get in the way of attendance which may lead to cancelling or changing appointments. It’s important to note that late cancellations can mean sessions can’t be filled and other clients may miss out. It’s important to make every effort to notify me as early as possible to avoid this.
I ask for at least 48 hours notice to cancel or change an appointment. (A cancellation fee may apply for late changes or missed sessions).
-
Financial circumstances can arise that may impact on your ability to pay for a session.
Sessions are expected to be paid on the day of the session attended. At the point of client registration prior to the first session, I ask for payment details so payment processing can occur efficiently as possible after each session.
As a solo practitioner I am not in a position to carry debits or offer fee relief. So if you are not able to pay after each session and/or before the next session, they will be cancelled until payment can be made. I take credit or debit cards and BPay.
-
This is very common. Couple or Family Therapy can often begin with whoever is willing to attend, and others may join later when everyone is ready. It’s important attendance is voluntary and that everyone is ready to participate in therapy. I will talk through the options with you and the best way to preceed that suits your circumstances.
-
No therapist can promise any particular outcome. The aim is to help you both understand what is happening between you, so you can make clearer decisions about your future. For some couples that means finding a way forward together. For others, it means separating with more understanding and less conflict.
-
I normally work with families that have adult children or adolescents of an age who can speak to their needs and experiences and feel safe to contribute and that safety and empathy can be provided by other family members attending. I will talk through with you about your child’s attendance and the appropriateness of their participation in Family therapy.

Yes I do offer Telehealth appointments for individual and couple therapy. Telehealth with family therapy is dependent of the numbers attending.
Telehealth requires safe and private spaces for it to be helpful. I use a secure Telehealth/video application called Zoom.
